Compare the two services
| Question | Proxy shopping | Package forwarding |
|---|---|---|
| Who places the order? | The local shopper or agent orders from the retailer | You place the store order yourself |
| Must you pay the retailer directly? | Usually no: the agent handles the retailer purchase | Usually yes: you pay the original store |
| Local delivery address | The agent arranges receipt or a warehouse | The forwarder supplies a local warehouse address |
| Most useful when | Local payment, seller messages or in-store buying | You can check out but need a local address and onward shipping |
| Common charges | Item, domestic delivery, buying or inspection fee, overseas shipping | Retailer payment, warehouse handling, consolidation, overseas shipping |
Which one fits your situation?
- Can you check out and pay the original store yourself?
If yes and the only barrier is local delivery, start by comparing forwarders.
- Do you need seller communication or in-store pickup?
That calls for a shopper or an assisted-purchase service, not forwarding alone.
- Buying from several shops?
Compare storage, receipt photos and consolidation rules rather than the headline buying fee.
- Do you have an all-in estimate?
Separate item cost, local delivery, service, international freight and possible import charges.
Compare the full cost, not just the service fee
The useful comparison is the complete order cost. Break it into four parts before you choose a service.
- Product cost and domestic delivery
Retailer delivery may be free or charged separately.
- Buying and communication fee
Provider models vary. Superbuy publicly lists a zero basic service fee for standard Taobao and 1688 purchases; secondhand and extra services can cost more.
- Inspection, photos and consolidation
Check whether these are included or optional.
- International shipping and import charges
The final parcel size, weight, route and destination affect the amount.
Three practical buying situations
US buyer, Germany-only retailer
If you can pay the store and it accepts delivery to a German warehouse, forwarding may be simpler. If checkout requires local payment or in-person collection, search for a local shopper.
Overseas buyer, Korean secondhand goods
If a Korean marketplace seller requires local conversation or payment, a buyer who handles that step may be more useful than a warehouse address alone. Compare publicly offered Korean buying help at its source.
Japanese shop without a proxy checkout button
WorldShopping’s official help explains how to submit an item URL, quantity and price for a non-partner store through its request form; feasibility is reviewed by that provider.
Frequently asked questions
Can a forwarder also buy items for me?
Some forwarders also offer a separate assisted-purchase option. Standard forwarding normally assumes you have already checked out at the retailer.
Does a zero buying-service fee mean the whole order is free?
No. Goods, local delivery, overseas shipping and optional extras can still cost money. Superbuy separates the purchasing and overseas-shipping stages in its published fee structure.
Why might there be a second payment?
Some agents weigh the parcel after warehouse arrival and charge overseas shipping separately. WorldShopping describes this two-stage approach in its official guide.
Is parcel consolidation always cheaper?
Not necessarily. Compare handling charges, final parcel dimensions and destination shipping. One oversized item or a very small order may not benefit.
