How to compare sources and prepare a brief
A useful research or data request begins with the decision you need to make. Specify the question, the evidence that can answer it and the format you will review. This gives a researcher or AI operator a clearer target than simply asking for a report or a list.
Choose an output you can use
A small task could compare a defined set of suppliers, check public information about selected venues, organize a supplied spreadsheet, summarize a bounded set of documents or verify changes in a named data source. State the geography, time period, number of records and relevant languages. For data cleanup, provide sample rows and explain what a corrected record should look like.
Ask how the work will be checked
When comparing proposals, ask which sources will be consulted, how each important claim will be traced and how uncertain information will be labeled. Clarify whether the work is one-time research or continuing monitoring. Request relevant experience and an explanation of the human review applied to AI-assisted extraction or summaries. If an external notice has eligibility requirements, confirm those at the original source before treating it as suitable work.
Agree acceptance before collection starts
Check that the promised coverage is complete, units and dates are consistent, duplicates follow an agreed rule and missing values remain visible. Ask for source links and checking dates where the task concerns current public facts. For calculations, request the formulas or reproducible steps needed to inspect the result. A recommendation should distinguish evidence from the researcher's judgment.
For translation, transcription or linguistic review, state the source and target languages, the audience, the file or recording length and the output format. Share terminology and acceptance examples before comparing proposals. Onsite interpreting also needs the date, time zone, location and event format.
